Luck ends on HBO

Posted on : 25-Mar-2012 | By : admin | In : Actors and Actresses, Cable, HBO

The season finale of Luck on HBO is airing tonight. It has been sad watching it knowing there will not be a season 2.

Why couldn’t they find a way to continue?

I just wrote an article on how Luck has ended on HBO and am posting the full article at TV Robot.

Read more of the real story why Luck has been cancelled from Michael Man and David Milch

How much of the show had been shot when the plug got pulled?
Mann: We’d shot the first episode of the second season. We were into the first few days of the second episode.

Will we ever see that episode?
Mann: The first episode? Possibly, we’re not sure.

The title of the show was Luck. Every subplot and scene was to some degree about characters responding to sudden shifts in fortune and inexplicable events and random tragedy. Has this series of events, climaxing in cancellation, made either of you look at the show’s themes in a new or different light?
Milch: I think that it’s all part of it, isn’t it, Matt?”

Acting books – focuses on more philosophical concepts

Posted on : 27-Sep-2010 | By : Richard Walker | In : Actors and Actresses

Have your dreamed of becoming an actor or actress? If so, you’re probably outgoing and happy to be in the limelight. So many people dream of an acting career, but never follow through, perhaps only because they think they’d never cut the grade. Give yourself a chance. You can join an acting group and participate in plays through church and school groups. If you’re serious about your dream, you can find out for yourself if you’ve got talent. Acting books abound and you can learn a great deal by simply reading some books about something you love.

There are acting books on just about every facet of the business. Some emphasize the psychological challenges the actor faces in becoming his character. There are books on voice alone. Others cover the practical side of the profession, from how to support yourself between acting jobs to getting an audition and getting the part. The nuts and bolts of the business (finding an agent, contracts, etc.) are the subject of some acting books. Do you want to start your own cabaret show? Almost everything you ever wanted to know about acting may be found in an acting book.

There’s a sub-category of acting books geared to the young and aspiring which attempt a comprehensive view of the profession, much like a college introduction course. Techniques of basic acting and camera work, method acting, auditioning and characterization would be among the topics covered.

You’ll find many anthologies of interviews or essays written by successful, experienced industry pros, addressing various aspects of the business and how it all happens.

There’s another type of acting book which focuses on more philosophical concepts. Often written as a memoir of sorts by a seasoned professional who has walked the talk. Why do you want to do this? Every stage from starving artist to celebrity is told, to let you know what this acting business world is when you’re there for real, not just in dreams. Matters of personal identity, inspiration, family issues and the passion required for the craft cause you to reflect in a more realistic way just what you’re facing or embracing.

Educating yourself through reading acting books gives you a realistic, comprehensive background for your dream. If you explore your aspirations, examine your talent, read and practice techniques and methods, you’ll soon know whether you’re cut out for this interesting, artistic life. Studying various acting books devoted to the craft of acting, while also getting to know the day-to-day routines and connections of the business end will, at worst, educate yourself on a topic you didn’t know much about. At best, you’ll be impassioned and a step ahead of your competition as you begin to pursue your dream in earnest.

In 1963, Barbara Streisand released her first album, which was fittingly titled The Barbra Streisand Album, for which she received two Grammy Awards. At that time, she was the youngest artist to have ever received the Album of the Year award.

Because of her national fame and world-renowned recognition, Barbra Streisand is an devout socialist. You are never going to find her at a tea party movement event. The Streisand Foundation has provided grants totaling nearly 15 million dollars to national organizations dedicated to bettering a number of leftist issues. Both movie and music fans are always in search of memorabilia that depicts the likeness of their favorite celebrity. Everything from autographs to movie collectibles and concert memorabilia, Barbra Streisand is always a liberal fan favorite.

The Actress Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet’s first break in movies came at the age of seventeen when she took the role of an obsessive teenager in “Heavenly Creatures” released in 1994. Although the film got a lukewarm response at the box office it was highly acclaimed by the critics. Still a novice to Hollywood she attended a cattle call audition for Ang Lee’s “Sense and Sensibility” in 1995. Kate Winslet who outperformed hundreds of other aspirants immensely impressed the film’s star Emma Thompson. She played the character of plucky Marianne Dashwood. She was rewarded for her difficulty sleeping due to hard work, with a British Academy Award and also an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

In the record-breaking movie “Titanic” in 1997. The role won her an Oscar nomination again for the best actress once again creating a record to get nominated twice in Oscars at the youngest age. Winslet was over the cloud nine after the resounding success of Titanic, which made her the star in demand. She played the role of adventurous soul searchers in “Hideous Kinky” in 1998 and “Holy Smoke” in 1999. Her association with period never seems to be over when she was back with a period film again in 2000 in “Quills”. There was no dearth of Oscar nominations for Winslet as she was nominated to Oscar for best actress for the movie “Iris” but the luck eluded her once again and she lost it to Jennifer Connelly for “A Beautiful Mind”.

The stars wear Monique Lhuillier dresses

Posted on : 12-Jan-2010 | By : eherland | In : Actors and Actresses, Televisions, TV Stars

One of the most popular designers for TV actresses and Hollywood celebrities is the Philippine born Monique Lhuillier. You have most certainly seen her dresses worn on the red carpet, as major stars have publicly announced that their dress was made by this popular designer. Some of the most famous people wearing her dresses are Carla Gugino, Mila Kunis, Drew Barrymore, Teri Hatcher, and Scarlett Johansson, just to name a few.

But perhaps her most famous client is Britney Spears, who wore one of Monique Lhuillier wedding dresses for her (second) wedding in 2004. The wedding and the dress were initially top-secret, but the paparazzi spilled the beans when they publicized pictures of the dress. The dress is now being sold on auction and proceeds given to Britney’s charity foundation.

Monique Lhuillier dresses are absolutely stunning, but so are the price tags, ranging from $1000+ to probably tens of thousands for her most expensive wedding dress. But the stars can afford this kind of money. That is if they even have to pay for the dresses. I would even think that THEY are paid to wear the dresses, with all the free advertisement Lhuillier gets when a famous Hollywood actor wears her dress in public.

Walt Disney Movies Through the Years

Posted on : 03-Dec-2009 | By : jendara | In : Actors and Actresses, Careers, Educational

Walt Disney movies formed lasting childhood memories for generations upon generations of people. Walt Disney movies from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs through Wall-E have been moral and cinematic touchstones that have consistently been met with both criticial praise and box office success. You could even say that much of the moral fabric of America is tied up in the history of Walt Disney movies.

Just take a look at this list of Walt Disney movies through the years: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1938); Pinocchio (1940); Fantasia (1940); Dumbo (1941); Bambi (1942); Cinderella (1950); Alice in Wonderland (1951); Peter Pan (1953); Lady and the Tramp (1955); Sleeping Beauty (1959); 101 Dalmatians (1961); The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977); The Rescuers (1977); The Fox and the Hound (1981); The Little Mermaid (1989); The Rescuers Down Under (1990); Beauty and the Beast (1991); Aladdin (1992); The Lion King (1994).

All of the above Walt Disney movies have contributed to the myth and mystique of Disney animation, and with good cause. They’re all timeless works of art that have made an impact on our greater culture and given many actors acting jobs, many of whom may or may not have taken acting classes.

A history of Disney’s animation studio can be found at Wikipedia:

Walt Disney began the move into features in 1937, pulling selected animators away from the short subjects division that had previously been the whole of Walt Disney Productions. The result was the first animated feature in English and Technicolor, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White became an unprecedented success when it was released to theatres in February 1938, and it and many of the subsequent feature productions became film classics. These first features were presented as being made in ‘multiplane technicolor’, since both the multiplane camera and technicolor were still something new in the area of animation. Following the successes of these features, Disney expanded his company’s operations, moving into live-action features, television, and theme parks. Beside successes like Snow White, Dumbo, and Cinderella, Disney also directed the Feature Animation staff create experimental and stylized films such as Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio some of which sustained losses and did not recoup their costs until decades after their original releases. In 1962, Walt Disney shut down the corporation’s short subject department, focusing its attention mainly on television and feature film production (the studio would periodically produce featurettes and shorts on a sporadic basis, including films starring Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, and Roger Rabbit).

The vibrating panties scene in the movie The Ugly Truth

Posted on : 18-Oct-2009 | By : gmarkusson | In : Actors and Actresses, DVD, Reviews, Talk Shows

One of the funniest movie scenes in years is from the movie “the Ugly Truth” where the actress Katherine Hegl plays a successful business woman working for a television station. At one point in the movie she is going out to dinner with her co-worker and her boss and happens to be wearing a pair of vibrating panties that her co-worker gave her. she looses the remote control for the vibrating underwear without noticing it and a young boy at another table picks it up thinking it’s a salt dispenser. As the boy presses the controls buttons she starts to get the buzz from the vibrating panties and the resulsts are hilarious.
