About the top 100 horror movies

Listing the Top 20 was tough enough, but to attempt to compile a complete listing of the top 100 horror movies can be, well, frightening. There’s the problem of genre splitting, which is what happens when you can’t decide if “The Hills Have Eyes” is a horror movie (it is) or a Slasher flick (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”).

Then there’s the added complication of objectivity, which of course, goes down the drain from the get-go. So here are 20 of the top 100 horror movies of all time, and you should be grateful for these screen gems.

5 Considerations when purchasing an HDTV

Posted on : 25-Mar-2010 | By : Tanaka | In : Educational, Satellite, Televisions

Five Considerations when purchasing an HDTV

If you might be wondering whether or not purchasing an HDTV is often a good idea, then here are some points that might help you to make a decision.

1. In early 2009, a lot of cable businesses and satellite providers moved over to digital transmissions. This means they no longer broadcast any programming in analogue, so if you’ve an analogue TV, you likely had to obtain an HDTV converter. Naturally, the HDTVs are designed to receive these digital signals, so if you buy one, issue solved.

2. You will have top high quality image clarity. Analogue TVs just can’t compare on the detailed and crisp picture of an HDTV. This is largely related towards the higher resolution and pixels that make up the picture in your HDTV. Analogue TVs tend to show “ghost” images, meaning they don’t refresh often sufficient or have beneficial adequate resolution to keep up with the transmissions, so that you are seeing images that have already disappeared. Not so with HDTV, you see everything as it occurs.

3. Do you like mono sound? Almost certainly not. Analogue TVs just don’t have the capability of putting out a top quality sound. HDTVs generally come standard with a Dolby sound technique or they have a speaker system that’s a surround sound set up. They’re also set up to become connected to your home theatre technique if you ever prefer that. Several people select this choice since they can configure the speakers around the room to capture the very best sound experience. This is practically indispensible when it arrives to viewing movies at home.

4. You can mount your TV for the wall. Most HDTVs are flat panel and are easy to mount. You’ll find quite a few mounts to choose from, whether you want to be able to rotate your TV or just have it flush on the wall. Needless to say, you can’t mount your old analogue TV to the wall, you would require a 20 inch shelf and it would just look silly.

5. Better selection in size. An analogue TV, which you can’t invest in anymore, unless it is from a second hand store, only comes in so many sizes. An HDTV comes in numerous sizes, regardless of whether you happen to be searching for a smaller 21 inch for the bedroom or a 62 inch for your family room. Choices abound.

HDTVs have arrive a long way over the years. What may have cost you plenty of money just a few years ago is out there for around half the price now. Depending on the time of the year, numerous websites and stores are clearing out last year’s models, so now is almost certainly a great time to start looking for your new TV.

A Blu-ray player is an essential complement to your HDTV, consider the Samsung BD-C5500 Blu-ray Disc Player as a superb choice. More info on the player can be found at http://bdc5500.org/

British rock bands through the years

Posted on : 22-Mar-2010 | By : krbakken | In : Music

This article is about British rock bands

The history of british rock bands really begins with the Beatles. The group’s first incarnation was in 1957, when then sixteen year old John Lennon and some schoolboy pals decided to form a band. A month later Lennon met then fifteen year old Paul McCartney and invited him to join. Several months after that, McCartney invited fourteen year old George Harrison to join, and the genesis of the Beatles was complete.

They ended up writing songs and playing gigs under several different names, including some pretty awful ones like “John and the Moondogs.” Eventually Lennon’s schoolboy friends decided to leave the band for school, and Lennon, McCartney and Harrison were left as a trio who would play gigs whenever they could find a drummer.

80s Pop Music: The Beginning of Modern Rock

Posted on : 18-Mar-2010 | By : krbakken | In : Music

One of the best real bands to emerge from 80s pop music was Midnight Oil. These Aussies carried through into the early 90s with their big hit “Beds are Burning” and later “Blue Sky Mining”, among others. Another critically acclaimed singer/songwriter of 80s pop music (and rock) was Peter Gabriel of Journey fame with his hit “In Your Eyes”.

All in all, 80s pop music was fantastic for people who really loved original, melodic songs and spawned a whole new generation of musicians and a style of music that we continue to listen to until this very day. In fact, today’s Alternative Rock musicians owe their musical lives to the pop and rock bands of the 80s who were not afraid to be different and independent.

Watching TV Shows Online

Posted on : 17-Mar-2010 | By : Dalgetty | In : Careers, Music, Online TV, Reality TV, TV Shows

Many of your favorite prime time television shows are available to watch online on demand or as podcasts to your blackberry or iphone. In today’s hectic world it is sometimes next to impossible to set aside specific times to watch scheduled shows. There are other ways of watching these shows besides on your television and seeing TV shows online is one option that is becoming more and more popular.

As computers get faster and bandwidth increases more and more information can travel over cable or DSL lines or by satellite much faster. You can watch streaming movies on demand on sites like www.netflix.com or www.blockbuster.com. For smaller movies and tv shows online you can just go to www.youtube.com and do a search. Even Amazon has pay per view now with streaming video. Not all of your favorite television shows will be available there however. Sometimes you need to set up a log in account with the network that produces the show in order to watch it. You can also get pirated shows using an outlaw service such as torrent or limewire, but it is not recommended and you can get some seriously damaging viruses on your computer. It is not worth the risk and you should avoid these open file sharing sites.

American Idol is currently in Season 9 and is probably the most popular TV reality show currently on air.

There is one singer in particular who is standing out from the crowd, her name is Crystal Bowersox and she’s sure to get a recording contract even if she doesn’t win American Idol this year.

On Demand services are routinely offered free by most cable providers and satellite television companies including Comcast and Astound. Not all programs are available however and even free television networks like NBC charge a small fee to watch your favorite shows. In comparison you will not get as good an image watching tv shows online but you will save money. Again, not all shows are available online.

If you are traveling to a foreign country you may not be able to download or watch your favorite tv shows online by going to the network sites. Pirating is so prevalent in many countries that networks and studios do not allow streaming video to go out on their broadband.

TV shows online can also mean sports programming and there are several sites where you have to pay a fee like a season pass in order to watch your favorite sports teams. This can be great if you are Los Angeles Lakers fan, for example, and you are travelling all the time but still want to see their games every day. Special NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB packages are available for those specific sports tv shows online. They are not cheap however so be prepared to pay up or else miss a lot of games. This is just not acceptable to truly devoted fans and most will pay whatever it takes to watch their games on a consistent basis.

If you don’t want to miss your favorite programs you don’t have to anymore, not with tv shows online and other on demand packages available. You can also just record the shows and watch them later on our TIVO.
Whichever method that you choose everyone agrees that it is always good to have options.

Awesome Super Bright Flashlight Infomercial

Posted on : 12-Mar-2010 | By : Joseph Lite | In : Commercials, Online TV, TV Shows

I was watching TV the other night and I caught the tail end of this really cool TV ad for a super bright flashlight. I searched all over the web the next day to find it. I am glad I did because I think this may be the most incredible flashlight ever designed. The super cool, bright led flashlight is called Blackfire Clamplight. It has a CREE 65 lumen bulb and seems to be as bright as a spot light. I love LED lights because they basically last forever. My biggest complaint about normal flashlights is what a pain it is to replace the bulb. I can never find the right one at the store. Well that gripe is over for the next 100,000 hours of usage because I just bought a Blackfire!

What’s Good This Season on TV

Posted on : 10-Mar-2010 | By : admin | In : Reality TV, TV Shows

TV is pretty good in the Winter/Spring of 2010.

Survivor Heroes and Villains is pretty good! I must admit some of those has beens are fun to watch!

Lost – the Fianl Season is excellent! First rate and complicated but fun!

Starz has a hit on it’s hands with Sparticus Blood and Sand. My chick friend thinks it’s a guy thing – but I say if you can look past the violence and sex it is a brilliantly written show that pushes all the right buttons. Best new show of 2010!

American Idol – sorry but it sucks big time! Ellen is a liability and dragging it down.

Are The American Idol Contestants As Good This Season?

Posted on : 06-Mar-2010 | By : Dalgetty | In : Music, Reality TV, TV Shows, TV Stars

I’m not sure that they are as good this year in American Idol Season 9.

In past years, I’ve always been able to pick out a few potential winners, but some of the contestants seem to be quite weak and I’m not sure how they made it past the audition stages!

One girl I really, really like though is Crystal Bowersox. She’s a natural performer and does NOT put on airs and graces like potential pop artists often do.

Michelle Delamor was also very good I’m really surprised she has been voted off already! Very often it just comes down to song choice alone and if the contestant makes a bad choice, they don’t get another chance such as John Park who has also been voted off, he has a GREAT voice but I don’t feel the song was right for him.

A good place to keep up with extra news and gossip from American Idol Season 9 is on American Idol Live where there are personal comments left by people and you can get a good idea of who is being supported the most.

It’s always great to watch Simon Cowell in action, you can guarantee that he will always say it like it is and Ellen DeGeneres is doing a good job, another straight speaker who will give good , honest advice to the contestants.

The Samsung LED HDTV is Ultra Thin

Posted on : 01-Mar-2010 | By : rgormly | In : Broadcasting, Cable, Reviews, Televisions

Because the Samsung UN55B8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz LED HDTV doesn’t use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps (CCFL) like other models of HDTV it is Ultra Thin. And I mean ULTRA!!! Only 1.5 inches wide. That is thanks to the use of LED’s (light emitting diodes). This also means that it uses up to 40% less energy than conventional Flat Screen TV’s and it emits virtually no heat like conventional HDTV’s do. Because LED TV’s don’t use bulbs so they don’t generate heat!
